Ukraine Is Not Only ... Lviv!

Yes, exactly, the Euro-2012 host cities are far from representing whole Ukraine. And we continue proving it! The Western Ukraine is on the row - Lviv's neighbor cities. This region's unique trait is wonderful natural conditions and excellent ecology.  While in the country's east or south it is possible to reach resort from industrial giant (or vice versa) in couple of hours, here curative and clean mountain air is everywhere - in Carpathian Mountains, Zakarpattia or Prykarpattia. One more important peculiarity of the Lviv's neighbor cities is their 'compact' location - geographical proximity to each other. This feature must be really appreciated by Euro-2012 guests. Having stopped in any of the following settlements, tourists won't have any problems visiting matches on 'Arena Lviv' stadium or at Lviv's fan-zone - it won't take longer as half an hour, or three hours tops. One more useful proximity is proximity of Polish border. Settling somewhere to the west from Lviv is an excellent choice for German, Portuguese and Danish national teams' aficionados. In regard, two (or at least one) of them will probably go to play quarter-finals and semi-final in Poland after group tournament in Lviv. Therefore, thought out settling in one of Western Ukraine's towns allows attending matches in Poland without changing roost.
Truskavets (around 100 km away from Lviv). According to historical data, healing mineral water from Truskavets springs was known in the 17th century already. This fact, however, remained unnoticed at those tough times and only 200 years later, clinics, health resorts and pump rooms were opened in Truskavets. Today it is one of the most popular health resorts in Ukrainethat is widely famous outside the country as well.
However, it is not the most essential thing in the next 1,5 months! Truskavets is an official (recognized by the UEFA) Lviv's satellite town in hosting Euro-2012. The plan is to locate more than half football fans, who will visit matches in Lviv, at its resorts and hotels. Truskavets will be able to accommodate over 10 thousand guests, around a thousand out of them are football officials of different ranks and other tournament guests.
At the same time, in June, local and central authorities will do their best in order to minimize any inconveniences that Euro-2012 guests may encounter, due to living outside Lviv. Thus, fan-zone with live broadcast of Euro-2012 matches will be opened at Truskavets's central square. Its capacity will be virtually equal to the number of tourists in town.
Those, who own a ticket to Lviv's match or want to spend time on the Ukrainian Piedmont's streets, won't have problems as well. In summer, a high-speed railway connection will be organized between Truskavets and Lviv. It'll allow reaching Western Ukraine's football capital just in one hour.
Ivano-Frankivsk (around 140 km away from Lviv). Ivano-Frankivsk is one more town officially recognized by the UEFA as Lviv's partner-town. It's, of course, much less helpful than Truskavets, but European football officials licensed a few hotels here - in 'Carpathian Gates' - to accommodate Euro-2012 guests. Fortunately, tourists will have a lot to do in town during pauses between match days - Ivano-Frankivsk can absorb even the most experienced tourists with dozens of architectural and historical monuments from different ages.
In summer of 2012, Ivano-Frankivsk will surely become an important part of transportation system. The thing is that town's airport is not inferior in its technical characteristics to Lviv's one. Moreover, it has all necessary licenses in order to receive the same class planes as the host city. This means that Ivano-Frankivsk's airport may become not only reserve, but alternative option. As we can see from the distance between the two cities, it takes just couple of hours to travel from Ivano-Frankivsk's airport to Lviv or vice versa.
Mukachevo (around 225 km away from Lviv). And it seems that here one will be able to take a rest from 'Welcome to Euro-2012!' signs. Mukachevo gets ready to the European Championship in quite measured tempo and without fanaticism. Well, it must be common for a small border town.
However, it doesn't mean that Mukachevo won't be interesting for Ukraine's guests in June 2012! Quite on the contrary! It's not a coincidence that we mention very this town in our overview, and not larger and higher ranked Uzhgorod, for instance! Mukachevo is Western Ukraine's, and in particular Zakarpattia's, true gem.
This town, more than any other, embodies Ukraine's multi-nationality: during one day here, you may hear half a dozen different languages of national minorities and the same number of Ukrainian dialects in its streets! There are also a huge number of various religions and denominations here!
This town is among the few that embody Ukraine's tragic and heroic history: being in-between of different countries' spheres of influence, Mukachevo was repeatedly passed back and forth between quarrelling neighbors. Only in the 20th century, Zakarpattia and Mukachevo were adjoined to the Soviet Ukraine, and then became part of independent Ukraine. Mukachevo perfectly kept all historical monuments of virtually all periods: from the Middle Ages to the Soviet times. By the way, medieval monument - Palanok Castle - is town's trademark.
Ukraine's largest ski resort, equally popular during cold and warm seasons - Bukovel (around 240 km away from Lviv) - is also eager to welcome Euro-2012 guests. During mass influx of tourists Bukovel is visited by high-class singers, musicians and humorists virtually every day.
Offering measured recreation and health improvement on par with sports entertainments, an older resort Yaremche (around 200 km away from Lviv) will compete with Bukovel for active tourists. Yaremche's and its outskirts' sceneries are breathtaking as well - here one can enjoy the true Carpathian Mountains' beauty.
And Ternopil (around 130 km away from Lviv) and its suburb Kremenets (around 160 km away from Lviv) will surely please history buffs - 200, 300 and 500-year-old buildings are perfectly preserved here. For instance, Ternopil's Old Castle is over 500 years old, and its Church of Nativity is 400 years old, Kremenets's Jesuit Seminary is 200 years old.
Already mentioned Zakarpattia capital, Uzhgorod (around 250 km away from Lviv) - town of monuments, temples and parks - is not inferior in its historical meaning to Ternopil.
